A skydiving outing turned fatal this weekend when a 34-year-old U.S. resident died Sunday evening (Oct. 21) near Westwold.

RCMP were called to the 5100 block of High 97 in Westwold around 7 p.m., according to a police press release, following reports of an accident involving a skydiver.

Police and ambulance attended the scene where the man was pronounced dead.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are investigating along with the B.C. Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board.

Police have not released the man's name, but on social media, messages are being left on Jon James McMurray's Instagram account, a rapper and extreme sports enthusiast. Pro-skier Rory Bushfield posted on Instagram that McMurray passed away in a skydiving accident yesterday. McMurray's wife, Kali James, also posted to social media.

McMurray, who also went by Jon James in the music world, was born in Alberta but had moved to LA.

In his music videos, he was often featured in stunts, including skydiving. A recently uploaded video to his Facebook page featured stunts in the Lower Mainland from earlier this month.
