A would-be Good Samaritan who tried to pay for someone else’s cab ride ended up getting arrested in an odd scenario last week on Vancouver Island.

Oak Bay police said they were called by a cab driver who hadn’t received his money after dropping a man off on Oak Bay Avenue, near Foul Bay Road, about 4 a.m.

After the passenger had left, a different man approached the taxi, gave the driver his identification and asked him to wait while he tried to get some money together.

Police arrived and ran the 48-year-old’s identification details through their computer system, and he was found to have outstanding warrants for drug possession and failure to attend court.

With that, the man was arrested, the passenger was identified and the driver was paid.
