Doritos truck bursts into flames in Victoria

Turns out Doritos really burn

A delivery driver was uninjured after a Doritos truck burst into flames this morning on a highway overpass in Victoria.

The driver was making his morning delivery around 6:15 a.m. when he smelled smoke coming from the truck. He got out and discovered a fire in the cargo area, said Langford Fire assistant chief Lance Caven. The driver tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher and called 911.

When Langford Fire arrived at the Millstream overpass in Langford, the cargo area was fully engulfed in flames.

The cardboard boxes and the chips provided fuel for the fire, Caven said.

“Chips themselves actually burn quite well, if you’re ever stuck for a fire starter take some Doritos and toss them in,” he said.

Firefighters were on scene until about 7:30 a.m. Traffic was diverted away from the southbound lanes.

The delivery driver did not need medical attention, Caven said.

The truck has been towed away and Caven will spend the afternoon inspection the charred wreckage, trying to determine the cause of the fire.
