Ancient Forest east of Prince George one of many B.C. parks now closed due to COVID-19

Several B.C. parks have been closed to ensure people are maintaining a safe distance from each other in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Provincial Park, located more than 100 km east of Prince George, is one of 13 parks announced as fully closed by the provincial government today (March 24), which includes all its trails and parking lot.

Five others are only listed as partially closed.

"Until we flatten the transmission curve of COVID-19 and people strictly comply with the PHO physical distancing requirement, provincial park access will be restricted,” said George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

As previously announced, all provincial campgrounds will also be closed until April 30, and Recreation Sites and Trails BC campgrounds will also now be closed.

More parks may be closed in the future on a case-by-case basis.

Backcountry trails in the province remain open, but maintenance in these areas has been suspended.

A full list of the closed parks in the province can be found here.

Parks Canada also announced today it would be restricting vehicle access in federal parks.
