An eerie sight in downtown Kelowna on the night before Halloween.

A buck came face to face with a pair of dogs on Richter Street and Fuller Avenue Wednesday night (Oct. 30).

Julie Overby sent Glacier Media a video of a couple of dogs having a staring contest with the buck.

"We live downtown on Richter and Fuller, and looked outside and see a big buck standing outside our front gate," Overby said. "Our dogs wanted to play. The buck did not."

The dogs barked several times but the buck didn't budge. Deer are more aggressive during this time of year, which is known as the "rutting season."

"In late fall, deer enter into the rut (breeding season). Breeding season is triggered by the reduced photo-period of the shortfall days," Wildsafe BC says of the rut.

Trick-or-treaters should be on the lookout for this buck who may be the same deer spotted on Bernard Street recently.
