It’s officially campaign season – the race to the Oct. 20 local election is on.

Sept. 4 marks the start of the City of Prince George’s 10-day-nomination period, and the first-day election signage may be put up around town.

Those who are worried about being bombarded with campaign signs all over town can breathe easy, as the city is only allowing campaign signs to put up at designated locations.

In 2017 the city passed bylaw no. 8867, which states candidates can only place their signs in 14 specific locations around Prince George.

The bylaw states that council “wishes to allow the reasonable use of election and political signs while preventing visual unsightliness and ensuring public safety.”

The public will only be able to spot campaign sings at these permitted locations:

  • Austin Road East and Highway 97
  • Foothills Boulevard and Austin Road
  • Foothills Boulevard and North Nechacko Road
  • Foothills Boulevard and North Otway Road
  • Foothills Boulevard and 15th Avenue
  • Ospika Boulevard and 15th Avenue
  • Queensway and Patricia Boulevard
  • Ospika Boulevard and 22nd Avenue
  • Queensway abd Village Avenue
  • University Way and Ceremonial Road
  • Ferry Avenue and Highway 16
  • Ferry Avenue and Clapperton Street
  • Tyner Boulevard and Highway 16

The nomination period for mayor, councillors, and school board trustees closes Sept. 14 and general voting day takes place on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The city also has a strict Oct. 24 deadline for candidates to remove their sings once the election is over.
