As the City of Prince George prepares for a massive budget shortfall in 2021, it hopes the public can express their opinions on how to manage it.

A public survey is done by the city each year, which includes residents being able to enter their property assessment into the interactive budget simulator to view their personal or business property taxes are used across city services.

The tool also indicates how their choices about the financial allocations to service areas would be reflected in their property taxes.

The survey addresses numerous city services including:

  • Community support
  • Roads and sidewalks
  • Attracting and retaining business and facilitating the development
  • Recreation and community facilities
  • Parks, trails and beautification
  • Snow and ice control
  • Police, fire protection and bylaw enforcement

Those wanting to participate in the survey have until Nov. 8 at midnight, with results to be sent to council for its consideration at the start of 2021 budget deliberations.

In addition to the survey, Mayor Lyn Hall will be hosting a Talktober Online Town Hall on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. via Zoom for public consultation.

Residents can participate by:

  • Residents are asked to register on Eventbrite. The registration is quick and easy
  • Registered participants will receive an email, which will provide a URL link to the Zoom meeting
  • During the event, participants who wish to ask a question will be called on by staff in order
  • Residents may also opt to submit a question ahead of time for possible inclusion during the event. They can email mayoradmin@princegeorge.ca or dial 3-1-1

The event will also be streamed on the City of Prince George Facebook page. A recording of the event will also be posted once the event has finished.
