More Prince George facilities are being shut down due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The city has announced it'll be closing all civic playgrounds and fenced dog parks and will also not be opening facilities like Masich Place Stadium, sports fields and ball diamonds, skate parks and hard surface courts until at least May 30.

"his action is being taken effective immediately and aligns with current Provincial Public Health guidelines relating to social (physical) distancing and orders limiting public gatherings," a statement reads.

The city will be putting up signs at affected facilities to let residents know of closures.

It explains additional closures may be enforced or scheduled beyond May 30 if Provincial Public Health Orders warrant such action.

As well, the city will not be taking any bookings for outdoor civic facilities, parks or sports field including Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Pavilion and Bandshell, Masich Place Stadium, Connaught Hill, and Rainbow Park Gazebo for use before May 30.

Bookings that had been made for April and May have been cancelled and users have been notified.

The City of Prince George says it'll notify user groups and the public when bookings will once again be accepted.

The gates that provide vehicle access to Connaught Hill and Nechako Riverside Park will remain closed until May 30.

Parks and trails will remain open that allow for adequate physical distancing.

The majority of parks including Cottonwood Island, Ferguson Lake and Forests for the World will remain open with social/physical distancing guidelines in place and related signage on site.

"All visitors to city parks and trails must exercise physical distancing per the directions from the Chief Provincial Health Officer. Last week, the city started to install signs at city parks and trails about the importance of social distancing," the statement concludes.
