Climb for Cancer in Prince George sets 2020 goal of $75K

The annual event is now in its fifth year

The 2020 Climb for Cancer hopes to step up to a new level this year.

Chair of the Climb For Cancer Planning Committee Doug Bell announced today (Feb. 18) the goal has been set at $75,000 to help the Kordyban Lodge cover its close to $1,000,000 annual costs.

"The funds will ensure the Lodge can continue providing compassionate, safe, and affordable care to the more than 800 guests it serves every year," said Bell.

In 2019, a total of $65,000 was raised, eclipsing a four-year grand total of $172,000 since the event's inception in 2015.

Organizers last year said there were close to 500 climbers in 2019.

The Kordyban Lodge helps assist central and northern B.C. communities in receiving cancer treatment.

Registration for the event is now open and there is a new addition for this year; a special VIP section being offered to eligible teams.

Bell says teams can be entered into a random draw to win access to the VIP section after climbing the cutbanks on April 18, 2020.

Teams of five or more must register before March 15 and raise a minimum of $500 prior to the draw date.

The winning team will get a special covered heated section with snacks and other special benefits.
