More COVID-19 cases have been found at a major northern B.C. project.

Four more Site C workers tested positive for the virus, BC Hydro confirmed this morning (Nov. 20), increasing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic reached Northern Heath's region to 11.

The provincial service says all infections are with contract workers, who were all part of the same crew at site.

BC Hydro further explains three are currently isolating at the work camp, while a fourth is isolating at home after they were detected upon returning home from their shift rotation.

“As a precautionary measure, all remaining members of this work crew have also been isolated in camp or at home,” BC Hydro said in a notice.

“None of the workers who tested positive left camp or had any interaction with the local community.”

As of today, there were 1,518 workers reported at the work camp, 32 in self-isolation — the highest number in quarantine at one time since the pandemic began.

Northern Health has had 563 COVID-19 cases confirmed since March, 74 of which are active along with five deaths and 484 recoveries.

LNG Canada in Kitimat is the other major project in the north with a discovered transmission of the virus with 14 reported on Thursday (Nov. 19).

The Peace Villa outbreak in Fort St. John was declared over after a day for precautionary reasons.
