Prince George Mounties say drivers were not at fault in two pedestrian-involved collisions this week.

Shortly after 7 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 21), Prince George RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of 5th Ave. and Carney St.

Once arrived, emergency services and police believed initial indications were the vehicle had hit a single person.

The driver, as well as witnesses, stayed at the scene.

Investigators now believe an elderly pedestrian with a walker was crossing Carney St., but did not make it to the other side before the light had changed.

A man driving the sedan went through the fresh green light on Carney St., but did not immediately see the pedestrian who was wearing dark clothing.

The driver attempted to swerve to avoid the woman but struck her with their side view mirror.

She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no charges were laid against the driver.

In a second collision at roughly 12:30 a.m. this morning (Jan. 22), police received another report of a collision involving a pedestrian near 20th Ave. and Spruce St.

Once emergency services and RCMP arrived, they discovered a man wearing dark clothing was skateboarding across 20th Ave. when he was struck by a pickup truck.

The pedestrian was crossing in the middle of the block.

The skateboarder was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no charges were laid against the driver, who also remained on scene.

Prince George RCMP is reminding citizens to take necessary measures to remain seen during dark hours.

"The RCMP would like to remind all pedestrians that reflective clothing or blinking lights are the best way to ensure you are seen when walking along or across our roads," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass says in a release. "Please take the time to ensure you are safe, especially during the dark hours of the day."
