An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for Prince George by Environment Canada.

The warning says a bitterly cold arctic ridge of high pressure will remain over the area for several days with winds 40 km/h in Prince George and Stuart-Nechako areas.

The strong winds will create wind chill values near -40 C beginning tonight (Jan. 11) with Environment Canada adding the temperatures will create frostbite in minutes.

"Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia," the statement reads.
