'He doesn’t want to go trick-or-treating next year': Burns Lake parent warning others after saying needle was found in Halloween candy

Sharon Turner found a needle in son's Halloween treats

A Burns Lake mom is warning other parents to follow a familiar message: check your child's Halloween candy.

Sharon Turner's 11-year-old son, Carl Jr., asked her to check his candy after she had warned them about other alleged incidents involving objects.

"I warned them about the first sewing needle in another child’s chocolate," she told PrinceGeorgeMatters. "My partner and I warn the kids every year that we are to check their candy before they eat it. This year, I didn’t think it would happen to our kids."

She says four other children allegedly had objects in their candy as well, two before the reported incident with her son and two after.

Burns Lake RCMP said in a news release today (Nov. 5), they were unaware of any other incidents of needles or other objects in candy but are investigating the incident involving Turner's son.

"My son started panicking. I told him everything is okay, you didn’t eat it," she said. "I told my kids to throw it out their candy right away, I was so shocked."

She says because of what they found, her son doesn't want to go trick-or-treating next year.

"I want the public to know that this does happen and to always check your kid's candy," Turner added. "You can see the little hole where the threads go for sewing."

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson with North District RCMP said the child had been to several neighborhoods, so police have not been able to pinpoint where the candy exactly came from.
