High-scoring Saturday tips away from Prince George Spruce Kings

BCHL Showcase ends with 7-4 loss to Trail Smoke Eaters

They faced the Trail Smoke Eaters for a second time in seven days and between the two teams, 11 goals were tallied Saturday afternoon (Oct. 5).

However, the scales tipped in favour of the bright orange, handing the Spruce Kings a 7-4 loss and the season-series 0-2.

Corey Cunningham had three points for the defending Fred Page Cup champions, including two goals that both went unassisted and came on power-plays.

Fin Williams and Preston Brodziak provided the other two goals for Prince George.

Trail forward Michael Colella notched a hat-trick and a five-point game on the other side of the rink.

Spruce Kings goaltender Jack McGovern started the contest, but Jett Alexander is credited with the loss.

McGovern let in four goals in a matter of 10 minutes from the 15:42 mark of the first period to the 5:55 mark of the second when he was replaced.

He was put back in to start the third period.

Prince George is back home this week for a four games in a two-week span beginning Friday (Oct. 11) at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena against the Nanaimo Clippers.
