Madison Landry kept her hot hand intact in last night's (Nov. 15) 80-63 win against the visiting UBC Thunderbirds

After recording a 20-point night in Langley this past weekend and leading UNBC to their first win of the 2019-20 campaign, Landry once again came out attacking at The Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

Both teams came out strong in the first quarter, going and back and forth before ending the opening frame tied at 15.

UNBC would have a strong second quarter before finishing the first half on a 7-0 run and taking a 36-28 lead into the locker room with Madison Landry leading all scorers with 15 after the first 20.

The break seemed to spark the Thunderbirds who came out with vengeance, holding the Timberwolves to just four points while UBC stormed back. With 5:40 left in the third, the Thunderbirds cut the deficit to one.

After UNBC went up by three, UBC's Gabriella Laguerta knocked down a triple to knot the game at 45-45.

Emily Holmes would come back with some buckets from downtown which helped the Timberwolves score 11 unanswered points to take a 56-47 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Thunderbirds never said die but UNBC would match the effort, running the clock to finish with the 80-63 victory at home.

“I think the biggest thing for tonight is even when they had their push, we could respond,” UNBC's Madison Landry said postgame. "So they brought it up to a two or three-point gap and we responded and then just kept making that gap bigger and bigger for ourselves so I think that was the key point in tonight’s win.”

Keylyn Filewich had a strong game for UBC dropped 13 points, 13 rebounds and three steals.

With the win, the Timberwolves now sit at 2-3 while UBC also sports the same record.

The two squads will go back at it again tonight (Nov. 16) with a tip-off time of 5 p.m.
