The UNBC men's basketball team has reason to celebrate after their win last night (Feb. 1) against the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The Timberwolves officially secured their spot in the Canada West playoffs after a 96-90 win at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

UNBC got out to a quick start with a 16-2 lead and didn't look back.

Senior Jovan Leamy had a dominant outing notching a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, five steals and three blocks while Zac Overwater also had a stellar game for Lethbridge with a double-double of his own, scoring 35 points while adding 13 rebounds.

"We were firing. Offensively, we shared the ball a lot and our guys really stepped up and made open shots. It was as simple as that," UNBC's Tyrell Laing says in a press release.

James Agyeman also had a strong performance for the Timberwolves with 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Laing provided 22 points off the bench.

“The coaching staff and my teammates have given me so much confidence,” Laing adds. “When I step out there, I feel like I have a neon green light. I know I can knock down shots at a high clip, and I am playing with confidence right now. Hoping to continue that.”

With the win, UNBC moves to 9-10 on the season and will look to finish the regular season with a .500 record when they take on Lethbridge again tonight (Feb. 2) in Prince George with a tip-off of 7 p.m.

“This is really important for the program. I think this is big for us to get back to the playoffs again,” Laing says. “We are really hoping to put ourselves in a position tomorrow, if we can take care of business, to potentially play another game in this gym.”

Lethbridge now sits at 11-8 heading into the regular season finale with crucial wins on the line for both clubs when it comes to playoff seeding.

The ladies also take on the Pronghorns in Prince George after suffering a 77-71 loss last night (Feb. 1). The women had already clinched their birth in the playoffs before this weekend.
