While close to 700,000 vote-by-mail packages have been requested by British Columbia voters, Prince George hasn't asked for many amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

New numbers released by Elections BC show, as of today (Oct. 13), a total of 680,000 vote-by-mail packages have been requested ahead of the snap election on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Between Prince George's two ridings, just 8,351 people have asked for mail-in ballots out of a total of 71,133 registered voters.

In 2017, only 6,517 people voted by mail.

Elections BC says there have been a total of 670,033 packages sent out to voters already.

Issued packages include those that have been sent out to citizens or are being prepared to be sent out.

Of the total number of packages, roughly 138,500 ballots have been returned to Elections BC, which is roughly 21 per cent.

However, this number doesn't include packages that have been received by Canada Post and are currently on their way to Elections BC or any dropped off at a district electoral office, Service BC location or a voting place.

Prince George-Valemount has 36,700 registered voters, but has had only had 4,155 requests for vote-by-mail packages.

Prince George-Mackenzie has had 4,196 vote-by-mail packages requested out of a registered voter total of 34,433.
