On Our Radar: Nancy Greene Raine helping this Prince George hill celebrate its golden season

Canada’s most successful skier attending Hart Highland Ski Hill’s 50th anniversary

What a better way to commemorate 50 years of family fun, then by chowing down on pancakes with an Olympic gold medallist?

But she’s not just any Olympian, Nancy Greene Raine is most decorated alpine skier in Canada’s history, and she’s in Prince George this weekend to ring in the 50th year for the Hart Highland Ski Hill.

The now 75-year-old won two medals at the 1968 Winter Olympics in France, a gold and a silver, one World Championship, nine Canadian titles, and three United States national championships.

After her career ended, she was enlisted into the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest civilian honour, took a seat in the Senate of Canada as a Conservative, and lit the cauldron at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics alongside Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash, Catriona Le May Doan, and Rick Hansen.

The Ottawa born, B.C. raised product was also named Canada’s female athlete of the 20th century in 1999.

Greene Raine is meeting with members of the mountain tonight (March 1) before having breakfast with the public tomorrow morning (March 2).

The event is by donation at the Hart Highland Ski Hill (3740 Winslow Dr.) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Greene Raine will be skiing with local residents until 1 p.m.
