A man has died following a fatal collision near Tabor Mountain on Sunday (Oct. 4).

Prince George RCMP say he was the driver of a vehicle that had collided with a tractor-trailer around 11:20 a.m. yesterday morning, found after officers responded to reports of a rolled over truck on Highway 16 east of the city.

Confirmed information about the cause of death remains unknown and the BC Coroners Service has been called in to help with the investigation.

No other details about the man's identity are being released.

Mounties explain they received early indications that the tractor-trailer was on fire and blocking the highway completely between Upper Fraser Road and the Willow River Rest Area with no detour available for stranded commuters.

Two people in the truck managed to get out with non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

As a result of the incident, police closed the highway for roughly eight hours to gather evidence and clear the road.

Drive BC reported the stretch opened to single-lane alternating traffic before 8 p.m. last night

According to Yellowhead Road and Bridge Fort George, Highway 16 fully reopened in both directions shortly after 11 p.m.
