The next regular city council meeting will take place on Nov. 26

The new Prince George city council has been officially sworn in and is now ready to get down to business.

The ceremony was officiated by Regional Administrative Judge Michael Brecknell, and was also attended by MP Todd Doherty, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George chair Art Kaehn, and School District 57 Board of Education chair Tim Bennett.

Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dominic Frederick also provided opening remarks during the ceremony.

“We honour you for acknowledging the territory and the community. Building this relationship is a good thing and I think we can continue building this relationship,” said Frederick. “I would congratulate you on behalf of our elders, our youth and our council and we wish you well in the next four years.”

After Mayor Lyn Hall and the eight councillors took their oaths of office, each person had a moment to say a few remarks to the gallery.

“I want to thank the residents of Prince George for their support and confidence in my leadership over the years,” said the mayor.

“To my council colleagues, you represent the best city anywhere and you all bring diversified opinions and experiences that will bode well around this table. I know each one of you bring a tremendous commitment and skills to the job and will see only the best is done or our city.”

“It’s pretty exciting to be here sitting around the table with these folks,” said Coun. Kyle Sampson. “We get to work with a great team of experienced councillors and that is something that is really exciting to me.”

Coun. Cori Ramsay also remarked she was looking forward to working with Hall and her fellow councillors over the next four years.

“For your future mentorship, I know we will form great working relationships and leave a legacy that residents can be proud of,” said Ramsay. “I am going to work hard for the people of Prince George and couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity.
