The Prince George Cougars started 2019 off with a bang and tonight (Jan. 8), they'll be looking to do it again.
The Cougars are coming off a shootout thriller against the Kelowna Rockets on Jan. 4 where Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier stood on his head for Prince George, stopping 26 of 27 shots while also putting his name into contention for save of the year.
Tonight takes them to Kennewick, Wash. where they'll face the 20-14-1-1 Tri-City Americans.
With the win against Kelowna, the Cougars improved their record to 13-21-1-2 on the season.
They're 3-7 in their last 10 games while Tri-City is 6-3-0-1 over that stretch and are coming off a 4-1 loss to Everett on Jan. 5.
The Americans have found comfort at home with a record of 10-5-1-0 while Prince George hasn't done well on the road sitting at 6-12-1-1 away from the CN Centre. A big part of that is the Cougars' power play struggles mightily on the road, scoring on just 12 of 89 chances (13.5 per cent).
To date, Tri-City leads the season series, taking all three wins in their previous meetings.
Prince George remains last in the B.C. Division with just 29 points while they sit ninth in the Western Conference standings.
