City of Prince George crews are working around the clock to clear the streets of snow.

In a Facebook post published on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 29), the city says a dozen graders, seven plow/sanding trucks, 14 loaders and three sidewalk machines will be operating during the day throughout the weekend.

Overnight, 10 graders, seven plow/sanding trucks, 10 loaders and four sidewalk machines will continue to clear priority one and two routes, including the downtown.

“By the time the snow stopped early this morning, public works reports that about 35 cm had fallen over the last 24 hours,” the post reads.

The city will also have a snow blower feeding windrows into a dozen contracted dump trucks.

“Local snow disposal facilities will be open 24 hours a day starting tonight,” the city says.

Residents are asked to do their part by staying back enough so crews can do their work.

The city is also reminding locals of the winter parking restrictions:

  • Priority one roads and hills, the hospital district, and a number of other designated roads: on-street parking is prohibited from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Downtown: on-street parking is prohibited from midnight to 7 a.m.
  • Residential areas: on-street parking is prohibited from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking on the side of the street with odd house numbers is permitted from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. unless otherwise posted.
