There was over $11 million worth of building permits issued last month in Prince George.

City council reviewed the monthly building permit data at its latest regular meeting on Monday (March 25).

The numbers show the city issues 32 permits valuing $11,293,089 in February 2019; that’s $4 million more than in February 2018, when the city issued 19 permits valuing $7,133,681.

The year-to-date so far for 2019 is already totalling nearly $16 million, coming in at $15,786,764.

“Great numbers,” said Mayor Lyn Hall, adding “We continue to see a tremendous amount of activity.”

Hall also commented on the amount of private sector investment which includes two new single-family dwellings, 10 new multi-family dwellings with a total of 44 units, 10 commercial alterations, and one new commercial building.

“It significant if you look at the breakdown of dollars invested in the private sector and that private sector equation and the percentage is really continuing.”

Coun. Garth Frizzell also took a few moments to comment on the significance of the monthly numbers.

“We are seeing both public and private investment in the city, it helps with the bottom line because the more infill we get the more new buildings we get the more it helps our property tax levy.”
