A local photographer has won a category in the BC SPCA 2019 Wildlife-In-Focus photo contest.

Prince George's Elle Ambrosi was selected as the top Wild Settings photo with her photo she captured of a coyote in Bear Lake.

The photo was titled "Traveling Solo" and was taken on March 4, 2018.

Second place went to Maja Lakhani and third place went to Arsalan Butt.

The first-place winners in both judged categories will be featured in the Spring 2019 AnimalSense magazine.

The top 52 photographers will have their photos featured on an exclusive deck of Wildlife-In-Focus playing cards that will be available to purchase later this month.

“With more than 580 photos submitted, it was a challenge for the contest judges to highlight only a few of the many amazing photos celebrating B.C.’s diverse wildlife,” said BC SPCA chief scientific officer Dr. Sara Dubois in a news release. “We want to thank all the participants for sharing their amazing photos and helping to raise over $16,300 for wild animals in need.”

This year, more than $16,800 was raised for wildlife in need at the BC SPCA's Wild ARC, which cares for more than 2,800 injured as well as orphaned wild animals each year.

The People's Choice Award was presented to Michelle Obre.

Her photo of a lynx raised $920 for Wild ARC.

The 2020 contest will open July 1.
