A 26-year-old woman has died after a stabbing

Mounties in Prince George have opened a homicide investigation after a downtown stabbing last night (July 2) resulted in the death of a woman.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says police received a report of a stabbing outside the Prince George courthouse at roughly 10 p.m. on Thursday.

When officers arrived, a 26-year-old woman was found with injuries that appeared to be from at least one stab wound.

First aid was performed until paramedics could arrive at the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Once the area was secured, Prince George RCMP's Serious Crime Unit was called to lead the investigation.

Douglass says early this morning, the woman passed away from the injuries sustained.

He adds the investigation is now in its early stages and significant resources have been deployed to help.

Douglass says anyone that saw the incident, or that has any information, is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
