Prince George RCMP seize stolen handguns, shotguns from trailer on Poplar Place

Police also seized stolen property when trying to locate a man with an outstanding warrant

Mounties in Prince George have seized numerous handguns and ammunition when trying to locate a man at a home on Poplar Place on Oct. 11 at around 10:30 a.m.

The suspect was believed to be living in the travel trailer on the property and also in possession of firearms. 

In a press release, Cpl. Craig Douglass says through an investigation, the officer determined that the man was likely inside the trailer. The North District RCMP's Emergency Response Unit was called in to help.

One adult female surrendered to police, while the male surrendered at 1:30 p.m. and was arrested without incident. The man also had a knife on him at the time of arrest. 

He was transported to the detachment and was held in custody overnight. 

A criminal code search warrant was obtained for the property. Police seized the following items from the trailer: 

  • A loaded pump action shotgun
  • A semi-automatic dual chamber shotgun
  • A loaded .45 automatic handgun 
  • A .45 handgun 
  • A .40 handgun
  • A handgun (confirmed stolen)
  • A 9mm semi-automatic handgun
  • 11 boxes of various ammunition 
  • Over 200 boxes of loose ammunition 

Police discovered the trailer was stolen. There was also an ATV on the property that was stolen. 

RCMP are trying to determine the rightful owners of the remaining firearms and other stolen items located on the property. 

The 30-year-old Prince George man has been held in custody on the outstanding warrant. The 21-year-old woman from Prince George has been released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 13, 2019. 

Police are also reminding citizens that in the last few months, at least five residences have been targeted to steal firearms. In addition, there have been five reports of firearms being stolen from unoccupied vehicles in the community.
