Prince George Spruce Kings' champion Layton Ahac inks NHL contract with Vegas

Golden Knights sign d-man to three-year entry-level deal

A golden moment for Layton Ahac!

The Prince George Spruce Kings' alum and member of the 2019 championship-winning club could be skating on the big stage in the next year after signing an NHL entry-level contract today (March 30) with the Vegas Golden Knights.

The deal begins in the 2021-22 season for the six-foot-two defenceman.

He's set to suit up with the Vegas' AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights, for the rest of its shortened 2020-21 campaign.

"I've been dreaming of putting on a Vegas jersey or an NHL jersey for so many years and I finally get to do it," Ahac said in a Golden Knights' article published Aug. 3, 2019.

Before getting to the pros, Ahac served two seasons with the Spruce Kings, combining for 61 points in 110 career games, including 51 assists.

His leadership and talent helped bring the Fred Page Cup to Prince George for the first time in its history, along with the regional Doyle Cup before reaching the final of the 2019 national junior 'A' championships.

The North Vancouver product was also a BCHL Second Team All-Star selection and represented Team West at the CJHL Prospects Game.

Ahac had committed to Ohio State University after that season, but was also taken by Vegas in the third round, 86th overall in the NHL Draft later in the summer.

He registered nine points in 27 games, including eight assists, over two years with the Buckeyes.

The Vegas Golden Knights are in their fourth season as an NHL franchise, currently leading the Pacific Division (altered by COVID-19) with a record of 24-8-1 as of this publication.
