A Prince George woman is being honoured as an up-and-coming leader in Canada’s forestry industry.

Faye Cuadra was awarded by the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) as it’s 2020 ‘Rising Star’ today (Sept. 21) for her work in developing biofuel at Canfor’s Pulp Mill in the northern capital.

She joined the team in 2018, seven years after moving to Canada from the Philippines, and is a UBC graduate of chemical engineering.

Cuadra has since contributed and implemented laboratory methods for what’s known as biocrude testing to advance the process development objectives of the Biofuels project.

“As a member of the Biofuel Development team at Canfor Pulp, Faye clearly demonstrates through her passion for her work and continuous development of her abilities and confidence that she is a Rising Star,” reads an FPAC release.

“A strong desire for sustainability and environmental stewardship motivates Faye and she believes her work in developing a process to produce biofuel is important in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

The FPAC adds Cuadra continues to learn and interact with a future biofuel business.

Her honour was given during a milestone year as National Forest Week (Sep. 20 to 26) celebrates its 100th anniversary.
