Update: Sinkhole near Prince George's Connaught Hill Park now repaired

A failed catch basin caused an intersection closure at Connaught Hill entrance

4:54 p.m.

Crews have now repaired a sinkhole that appeared yesterday at the vehicle entrance to Connaught Hill and the park is once again open to vehicle traffic.

The city says the stormwater collection system in the area failed, and crews have replaced roughly six metres of old clay pipe that was likely installed in about 1970.

Crews also fed a camera down into the stormwater pipes around the sinkhole to confirm the integrity of other pipes in the immediate area.

If you're wanting to get to Connaught Hill Park this week, you'll be walking to get there.

Vehicle traffic to the entrance of the Prince George park has been closed by the city as a sinkhole has opened up at the intersection of Connaught Drive and Caine Drive.

According to a release, early investigations indicate the sinkhole was caused by a failed near 50-year-old catch basin installed in the early 1970s.

Crews will spend the next few days working to repair the basin and pave the road before allowed vehicles in the area.

Prince George residents will be notified of when the park will re-open to vehicle traffic.
