The Prince George Regional Correctional Centre is struggling with staffing levels but says they are managing through numerous operating strategies.

An official with the Ministry of Public Safety tells PrinceGeorgeMatters as of now, they have no plans to bring in officers from other locations in the province.

"While recruiting in the northern region is a challenge, B.C. Corrections is actively and aggressively recruiting staff in the Prince George region," the ministry said in an emailed statement.

The ministry currently has one class that was recently hired, some new recruits are in the final stages of training while another will begin training at the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre in the next few weeks.

Despite recent graduates and new classes, recruiting is still ongoing.

The Prince George centre is a remand and sentenced (two years, less a day) facility for adults. The facility was opened in 1996 and houses both men and women.
