This not-for-profit has received $18,000 from the Prince George Cougars

United Way of Northern B.C. presented with donation from Mega Jackpot Night last month

A lucky fan that attended the Prince George Cougars game on March 9 walked away with close to $20,000 from the Mega 50/50 Jackpot.

The other half was donated this week by the Western Hockey League (WHL) franchise to the United Way of Northern B.C. (UWNBC), and its partnering organizations, with a formal cheque presentation at the CN Centre worth $18,000.

The not-for-profits benefitting from this financial boost are as follows:

  • Intersect
  • Prince George Hospice
  • Crisis Line
  • YMCA of Northern BC
  • Canadian Mental Health Association
  • Prince George Brain Injury Group
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince George
  • Carney Hill Neighbourhood
  • United Way Community Impact Fund

“The Prince George Cougars Society is honoured to have been able to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past few years to support a wide variety of charities, none more deserving than the United Way of Northern BC and the many important agencies under their umbrella,” said Cougars Vice-President of Business Andy Beesley in a release. “The Cougars look forward to many more years of supporting our community and we’ll be soon announcing more mega jackpots for next season.”

To be exact, the jackpot in the Cougars’ 5-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks, which also ended a 13-game home losing skid, reached $39,951, which is set to make an impact on the local community.

“We are so grateful to have partnered with the Prince George Cougars for this exciting event,” said UWNBC CEO Roberta Squire in the release. “In reality, many organizations can’t market or fundraise on their own and depend on United Way to raise awareness on the impact they have in our community,” commented Roberta Squire, CEO of the United Way of Northern BC.

This brings the Prince George Cougars’ community fundraising total to over $631,000 in the last four seasons.
