There’s nothing more iconic to Prince George than the cutbanks — except for Mr. PG, maybe.

Climbing up the steep sandy banks in the name of fitness or fun, is almost a right-of-passage in Prince George.

This spring will mark the fourth annual Climb for Cancer, where teams traverse the steep banks in the name of raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Registration is $5 but the view from the top is priceless.

And when you reach the top you will get to enjoy a much-deserved glass of water, the view and of course the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped a great cause. There will also be food, entertainment, prizes and more.

The Climb for Cancer is doable for any level of fitness. You can climb halfway up or all the way, or (for those super enthusiastic few) as many times as you want.

The money raised from this year’s event will go towards the Kordyban Lodge which offers year-round accommodation for patients and their family members who have to travel away from home to undergo cancer treatments.

Over the years the Climb for Cancer has raised over $100,000 and the goal this year is to raise over $70,000 for the Kordyban Lodge — that’s the equivalent of what it costs to run the lodge for one month.

The fundraiser takes place on April 27 from 12 to 4 p.m. so there’s plenty of time to get a team together and work up the courage to do the climb!

To participate you can form a team, join a team, or register as an individual on the Climb for Cancer website.
