Timberwolves' Maria Mongomo named Canada West women's first star

The guard/forward now sits in the top five in multiple Canada West categories

Another UNBC athlete is in the spotlight for her stellar play. 

Fourth-year Spanish guard/forward Maria Mongomo has been named Canada West women's first start for the period ending Nov. 18. 

The Timberwolves were host to the Trinity Western University Spartans this past weekend, with both teams looking to stay undefeated. 

On Nov. 16, which saw UNBC win a one-point thriller, Mongomo dropped 17 points with nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 25 minutes played. The next afternoon, she went off scoring 29 points while adding 11 rebounds, four assists and five steals in 32 minutes played. 

She now leads the conference in points per game (23.3), and also sits in the top five for rebounds per game (9.8) good for the fifth spot, steals per game (2.7) which she sits at number four and field goal percentage (53.5) which lands her also at number five.

She also hit a milestone against Trinity Western, scoring her 1000th-career Canada West point.
