The UNBC Timberwolves men's and women's basketball teams are a tale of two different stories.

Both the men and women have the same numbers in their records, but one is positive and the other isn't such good news as they're both set to host provincial-rival UBC this weekend in Prince George (Nov. 15 and 16).

As of today (Nov. 13), the men sit at 3-1 while the women are at 1-3.

The men are coming off a weekend sweep (Nov. 8 and 9) in Langley of the Trinity Western Spartans while the women split their weekend, also against the Spartans, winning the first before dropping the second.

The other win for the T-Wolves came against Victoria in their season opener on Nov. 1 when Vova Pluzhnikv recorded the men's basketball program's first triple-double since entering Canada West.

They sit seventh in Canada West standings.

The women's only win of the season came last weekend (Nov. 8) when Madison Landry led the Timberwolves past TWU, 70-62.

Landry dropped 20 points to push the women to victory.

They would lose the next night and held two previous losses already against Victoria from the beginning of the season (Nov. 1 and 2).

They currently sit 11th in Canada West standings.

The UBC men's side won their first two games of the year in Regina against the Cougars by scores of 83-72 and 82-71, but would drop their home openers to the Calgary Dinos by scores of 81-79 and 80-70 and hold a 2-2 record coming into B.C.'s northern capital.

Their record is good for ninth in Canada West standings.

UNBC also has numerous players in the top five of multiple Canada West leaders.

Guard's Tyrell Laing and Vova Pluzhnikov both crack the top five in points per game with Laing averaging 22.3 and Pluzhnikov 20.3.

Spencer Ledoux currently holds a field-goal percentage of 72.7, good for first place in the category.

The lady Thunderbirds also hold a 2-2 record coming into the new week.

Their season has gone the same way the men's side has with their first two wins on the road against the Cougars in Regina by scores of 70-58 and 74-56, but would drop their home openers against the Dinos by scores of 87-59 and 76-59.

Exactly the same as the male T-Birds, the women sit ninth in Canada West standings.

Leaders to keep an eye out for the UBC and UNBC lady squads are UBC Forward Keylyn Filewich, who currently sits in the top five Canada West leaders in field goal percentage at 61.8 per cent.

UNBC had two women in the top five Canada West leaders in points-per-game with Alina Shakirova averaging 20 points a night while Landry is averaging 19.3 per contest.

The ladies tip-off on Friday (No. 15) at 6 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, while the men are set to start at 8 p.m. Friday night and 7 p.m. Saturday from the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.
