UNBC Timberwolves look to get bounce back after defeats to Alberta

Men now on a four-game losing streak

It wasn't the result both UNBC basketball teams wanted on Friday night (Jan. 18) while pushing for a playoff spot. 

Both teams fell to the Alberta Pandas (women) and Golden Bears (men). The ladies lost 86-72 while the men dropped their game by a score of 76-68. 

Jovan Leamy once again led the way for the UNBC men with a double-double, dropping 18 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and one block on the evening. James Agyeman added 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals and five assists for the Timberwolves in the loss. 

UNBC shot poorly on the night, finishing with a 33.9 field goal percentage while hitting 28.6 per cent from downtown. 

Brody Clarke took the game into his own hands for the Golden Bears, posting 28 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. 

Alberta shot 39.1 per cent on the night while going 33.3 per cent from behind the arc. 

The men now have a four-game losing skid and drop their record to 7-8 while the Golden Bears improve to 12-3. 

As for the women, Madison Landry and Maria Mongomo led the way for UNBC. 

Landry led all scorers for the Timberwolves dropping 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals while Maria Mongomo posted a double-double adding 21 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists on the evening. Vasiliki Louka contributed as well with a double-double, notching 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. 

The team shot 30.8 per cent from downtown but only 33.8 per cent overall from the floor.

Vanessa Wild led the Alberta Pandas scoring 22 points, four rebounds, seven assists and four steals. 

The Pandas were lights out on the evening, finishing with a 57.6 field goal percentage.

The Timberwolves now fall to 9-6 on the year while Alberta improves to 13-2. 

Both squads are back at it tonight (Jan. 19) with the women tipping off at 4 p.m. and the men following at 6 p.m.
