Prince George RCMP are investigating an anonymous threat towards a childcare centre in the College Heights area.

This was the reason for recent hold-and-secures at Polaris Montessori Elementary, where no one was allowed in or out of the school as a result of a police investigation this afternoon (March 11).

According to Cpl. Craig Douglass, the childcare facility, located near the intersection of Simon Fraser Avenue and Gladstone Drive, is in close proximity to Polaris, which was also the target of another threat from Friday (March 8) that forced the entire school to evacuate to College Heights Elementary.

"Our officers take all threats seriously and will continue to investigate these Criminal offences with all recourses we have available," said Cpl. Douglass in a release. "With an abundance of precaution, we have taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety of these children and the children attending the neighbouring school."

In a statement of their own, School District 57 (SD57) said it has been told by RCMP that students are safe to come to school as normal tomorrow morning (March 12).

The SD57 Critical Incident Response Team will also be available in the event students are experiencing difficulties.

Cpl. Douglass added there's been no evidence to indicate there was a 'credible threat' towards Polaris Montessori, but that there may be a link to the two threats in four days.

Mounties believe someone has information about the person or persons involved and are urging anyone to come forward.

They can do so by contacting the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300, or Crime-Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Polaris Montessori Elementary students are being dismissed this afternoon (March 11).

The school has given the 'all clear' to the hold-and-secure that was issued at 12:55 p.m. for what Prince George RCMP say was a threat in the area.

An earlier newsletter explained the threat was not directed to the school, but that the building wasn't letting anyone in or out as a result.

There are no other details at this time; School District 57 (SD57) added proper dismissal procedures are taking place.

The hold-and-secure lasted for 90 minutes.

A Prince George elementary school is under another hold-and-secure.

As of 12:55 p.m. today (March 11), Polaris Montessori Elementary is experiencing a second hold-and-secure in as many school days according to School District 57's (SD57) website.

According to a newsletter, the Prince George RCMP say the threat is in the area of Polaris and not directly related to the school.

No one is being allowed in or out of the building until police deem the situation as safe.

On Friday (March 8), the entire student body was evacuated to College Heights Elementary as a result of the first incident.

However, the reasons for the evacuation were never specified.

SD57 said on Friday that students and staff will resume normal operations today.

This is the third hold-and-secure situation at a Prince George school in the last five days.
