Vanderhoof International Airshow postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19

Pandemic forces August northern B.C. spectacle to wait another year

It’s undoubtedly one of the north central region’s anticipated spectacles on the summer schedule.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has grounded the Vanderhoof International Airshow for a whole year as its committee made the decision yesterday (May 16) to postpone until 2021.

Originally slated for the B.C. Day long weekend, Aug. 1-2, the airshow brings in dozens of high-flying acts to the biannual event at the Vanderhoof Airport.

Public health recommendations from Dr. Bonnie Henry and the B.C. government, along with the current state of the virus, led to the cancellations of the 2020 show.

“We extend a heartfelt thank you to our guests, volunteers, sponsors, and performers for their support and efforts behind this year’s show,” reads a social media post.

“The Vanderhoof Airshow committee has begun discussing options to hold an exciting alternate community event in the future once it has been deemed safe and reasonable to do so – stay tuned!”

This year’s performers were set to reign over the Nechako Valley from a variety of places, including B.C.’s own Jodi Rueger, the Northern Stars Aeroteam of Ontario, Manfred Radius of Germany and the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CF-18 demonstration team.

The committee says guests who’ve purchased tickets for this year will be honoured for 2021’s showcase, but you’ll also have the option to request a refund

More information is available on the Vanderhoof International Airshow website.

As of this publication, there are 59 positive COVID-19 cases in Northern Health.
