Prince George played host to almost 60 curling teams from across the province this weekend.

In the end, Devin Burkitt of Vernon prevailed not once, but twice at the 92nd installment of the Kelly Cup Men’s Bonspiel at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, winning the top prize and the ‘B’ event.

His team defeated Micheal Dahms in the final draw 7-3 to claim the Kelly Cup trophy Sunday afternoon (April 7).

The Burkitt squad included Prince George resident Doug Dalziel at Second, along with Lead Gerry Richards of Kelowna and Third Dustyn Wozny of Red Deer, Alberta.

He qualified for the Championship tournament that began Saturday night (April 6) after making the ‘B’ side semi-finals.

He eventually won that event over Team Jeff Ginter of Dawson Creek for a better bracket position en route to the Kelly Cup.

Prince George’s own Garnet Boese fell short of defending his 2018 championship and was relegated to the ‘C’ event this year.

He would sweep his way to the top of that bracket with a final score of 6-3 over Mark Carswell of Fraser Lake.

Kamloops’ Darren Smale drew to the top of the ‘A’ side by a score of 8-6 in the final over Penticton’s Blaine Black.

The tournament saw Ron Vanderstar blank Al Weinsczyk 10-0 in the 'D' final, a year after the Smithers-based curling team took home the 'A' title.

Local resident Cale Rusnell tripled Joe Rae 9-3 in the ‘E’ event final draw.

Meanwhile, there were 19 teams competing in the Ladies’ Bonspiel.

We'll have those results when they become available
