While healthcare workers on the front lines of COVID-19 have been acknowledged and celebrated every day for the past several weeks, today (April 7) may feel a little extra special.

It’s World Health Day, which recognizes the work of those who save lives and put others’ needs above their own.

Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall took to social media to show his appreciation for local healthcare workers, creating a video outside of the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC).

“On behalf of council and the City of Prince George, thank you to the doctors and nurses and all of our healthcare professionals for working so tirelessly to keep us safe,” he says.

Hall also reiterates to residents that they have a role to play in the COVID-19 pandemic, reminding everyone to wash their hands, practice physical distancing and stay at home when they can.

Under the World Health Organization’s (WHO) sponsorship, World Health Day is in its 70th year of recognition after it was officially declared on April 7, 1950.
